SPRINGFIELD – Moisture has made Illinois crops a mixed bag for now.
“There are definitely places within Illinois where the crops are very good,” said state statistician Mark Schleusener of the USDA in Illinois.
He gives a hypothetical: “In some corn field somewhere, the low spot has a pond in it,” with little production in that spot, “but the rest of the field has gotten plenty of rain, and, if it drains off well, the plants are probably thriving there.”
The conditions are good-to-excellent for 62 percent of corn and 52 percent of soybeans.
