NORMAL – The McLean County Relay for Life at Normal Community High School is being moved inside due to Friday’s rainy forecast.
Chairwoman Dede Verplaetse said the campgrounds set up outside the school have been turned into a “swimming pool.” She said the safe thing to do is move the event inside.
“It’s just going to be a little bit cozy for all of us inside, but it’s going to work out perfect,” said Verplaetse. “The survivor dinner will be inside the cafeteria. We will have our basket raffle set up in a hallway. We are going to have all the youth activities set up in one gym. We’re going to have campsites set up in another gym.”
Verplaetse said people will be at the school to help direct participants when they arrive.
“We’re still going to have the luminary ceremony and everything,” she said.
Verplaetse added fundraising is going well so far.
“Our goal is $400,000, and we’re going to go into this event today over that amount and much more will come in today,” said Verplaetse. “I think we’re in good shape.”
Relay for Life is set to run from 4 p.m. Friday until 10 a.m. Saturday.
