BELOIT, Wisc. – The Peoria Chiefs got seven strong innings from All-Star Luis Perdomo and Alex DeLeon homered in a 6-1 win over the Beloit Snappers Tuesday night. The Chiefs start the final roadtrip of the first half with a win and move to 31-33 on the season with five games left before the All-Star break.
The Chiefs got the scoring started in the second inning against Snappers starter Junior Mendez. Danny Diekroeger led off the inning with a walk and moved to third on a broken-bat single to right by DeLeon. Steve Bean doubled to right-center for a 1-0 Chiefs lead and DeLeon scored on a fielder’s choice of the bat of Nick Thompson for a 2-0 lead.
Beloit got one run back in the bottom of the inning against Perdomo. Jose Brizuela led off with a double and Max Kuhn singled him home to cut the lead to 2-1. Perdomo retired the next three batters and later retired 13 Snappers in a row as he took control of the contest.
With their pitcher in cruise control, the Chiefs offense put the game away. DeLeon led off the fourth inning with his fifth home run of the season for a 3-1 lead. Thompson added his second RBI of the game in the sixth with a bases loaded single off reliever Jerad Grundy. The Chiefs finished the scoring in the seventh as Andrew Sohn doubled and scored on an error before Oscar Mercado singled home Darren Seferina for a 6-1 lead.
Perdomo (3-6) got the win in his final start of the first half. He allowed one run on six hits over seven innings and struck out seven without issuing a walk. Blake McKnight allowed one hit and walked one while striking out one over two shutout innings. He also hit a batter.
