NORMAL – Lightning caused a slight delay as Special Olympics events got underway Friday in Bloomington-Normal.
Special Olympics Board Member Kathy Schneidwind said rain is not an issue, but lightning means a 30 minute delay in activities.
“They don’t want people staying in tents, they don’t want people under trees,” said Schneidwind. “It’s extremely organized and kudos to the Special Olympics staff because this is very well thought out.”
Schneidwind said safety is a top priority.
Special Olympics Illinois Summer Games are going on all weekend on the campus of Illinois State University.
