SPRINGFIELD – An appeals court has thrown out a verdict in a McLean County drug case.
The 4th District Appellate Court has ruled that a conviction against Kuldeep Chatha be reversed. He was convicted in 2013 for possession of a controlled substance for allegedly selling synthetic marijuana at the former BP Amoco station in Lexington in 2012.
The court determined it would be difficult to prove Chatha knew products he sold as potpourri would have had a specific, illegal substance.
The appellate previously overturned a conviction against Dinesh Patel, the clerk who made the sale, after he was put on probation.
