Marcia Rock
Marcia Louise Rock, 67, of Bloomington, passed away peacefully at her home on May 31, surrounded by her adoring family and showered with love.
A Celebration of Life service will be held at 1:00 p.m., Wednesday at Carmody-Flynn Funeral Home, Bloomington, where visitation will be held for 2 hours prior to services. Interment will follow services at Park Hill Cemetery, Bloomington.
Marcia was born March 5, 1948 in Morrison, Ill. to Louis George and Marilyn VanVuren Temple. Marcia married her high school sweetheart Perry Allen Rock on Aug. 26, 1966. She retired from State Farm Insurance Company in Bloomington, where she worked for 17 years.
A quiet, loving tower of strength, Marcia was at the center of her family and community. No birthday, holiday, anniversary or achievement went unrecognized by her, without a loving card. Once Marcia appeared at any community or family gathering, she graciously and efficiently did whatever was needed to make the event a success. A humble person of great integrity, Marcia was happy to quietly contribute in the background.
A member of the Baha’i faith for 35 years, she was the cornerstone of the communities in which she lived. She served as the secretary of the Local Spiritual Assembly all those years, taught children’s classes, served on a national committee, and contributed in many other ways. She also organized Light of Unity award ceremonies and district Baha’i conventions when they were held in Bloomington.
Marcia was an avid member of the Hawthorne Book Club and enjoyed working in her yard. She loved to travel, enjoying trips to Arizona, Montana, Colorado, and other locations in the West with family and friends.
She is survived by, and will be deeply missed by, her husband, Perry Rock, Bloomington; son, Scott (Connie) Rock, Seattle; sisters, Sharon (Bill “Alan”) Gillis, Manteno, Cindy (Jim) Wherry, Fulton, Lori (Ed) Nicklaus, Sterling, and Mary (Bob) Cobert, Erie; and brother, Duane (Stephanie) Temple, Dallas.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to a charity of the donor’s choice.
