BLOOMINGTON – Multiple agencies, including the Illinois Fire Marshall’s office and the Occupational Safety and Health Administration, are investigating a fatal elevator accident at the McLean County Law and Justice Center.
Coroner Kathleen Davis said John Hoeniges, 56, of Bloomington was found dead in the north elevator shaft Monday morning by co-workers.
“John was beloved by everyone, his co-workers and people that saw him every day,” Davis said.
Hoeniges worked for the County for seven years.
Davis said she can’t comment about why Hoeniges was specifically at the North Elevator Tuesday morning or whether that was part of his job as a maintenance mechanic.
The McLean County Law and Justice Center will remain open with the exception of the north elevator.
