SPRINGFIELD – You still might get your chance to hunt bobcats in Illinois.
The bill to allow hunting of the animals is headed back the Senate floor for vote. A similar bill passed last year but was vetoed by then Gov. Pat Quinn.
The Senate agriculture committee voted Thursday to advance the bill. It proposes a four month hunting season.
The Illinois Department of Natural Resources said they will issue 500 permits in the first season. Experts at DNR said the state’s population of bobcats is growing and hunting them will keep them in check.
