NORMAL – Two Harbor Seals are now calling Miller Park Zoo their home.
Kilian and Oscar went on exhibit Tuesday after arriving from Sea World in Orlando last week. Director of Parks and Recreation Jay Tetzloff said Kilian and Oscar have gotten along very well with Kash, the zoo’s resident seal.
“Harbor seals are social animals,” said Tetzloff. “So the more animals you can have together, the more comfortable they are. That was one of the main reasons we added the two, to show that social bond that these guys have.”
Guests will be able to witness the seals being trained during daily demonstrations at 10:30 a.m. and 3 p.m. Tetzloff said the shows will be entertaining and informative.
“Once school is out we’ll have someone narrating a script and a show,” Tetzloff said. “It’ll teach people about Harbor Seals, water conservation, and things they can do to preserve the ecosystem.”
Tetzloff added that the zoo will be making another big announcement in the next few weeks.
