BLOOMINGTON – Talks continue between Bloomington-Normal city leaders and Uber to come up with an ordinance so the company’s drivers can operate legally on area roads.

However, Uber drivers continue to operate illegally. Bloomington Assistant Chief Ken Bays says the ordinance will ensure public safety.

“They shouldn’t be operating in the city is our position right now,” says Bays.  “We’re currently trying to work with particulary Uber and we’re trying to format an ordinance that might be applicable all transportation network companies such as Uber.”

Bays reminds us that the city has been ticketing Uber drivers who are responding to requests from the ride sharing app illegally.

Illinois poet Vachel Lindsay…

I was a grade-schooler during the Civil Rights 1960s. I watched Birmingham demonstrators hosed and the Selma – Montgomery…

Workers’ Memorial Day – Remember those whose job took their life

Looking around our community, when we say employer, most will respond to State Farm, Country, or Illinois State University.   We too often forget those who are building our roads, serving our food, or our public employees. COVID-19 has made us more aware of the risk.  Going to work every day for some people means…
