SPRINGFIELD – A proposal to replace snow days at Illinois schools with online learning days is on its way to the Senate floor.
The Senate Education Committee approved a bill Wednesday that creates a three-year pilot program for three selected school districts where kids would have to complete an online curriculum for the day if regular class is cancelled for any reason.
The curriculum would have to be approved by the individual school boards and the Illinois State Board of Education.
Opponents of the bill say kids without internet access at home would have a hard time completing the requirements.
The bill passed in the House last month with only one vote against it.
