SPRINGFIELD – A state lawmaker is proposing a bill to bring the death penalty back to Illinois.
Rep. John Cabello (R-Machesney Park) has introduced legislation that would reinstate capital punishment in extreme cases of murder. Those include the killing of an officer, young child, and multiple victims.
The death penalty was officially abolished in Illinois in 2011.
