Obituaries: Cox

Bloomington – Bonnie L. Cox, 73, of Bloomington, passed away at 9:35 p.m. on Monday, February 16, 2015 at OSF St. Joseph Medical Center in Bloomington.

Her memorial service will be held at 1 p.m on Saturday, February 28, 2015 at Our Redeemer Lutheran Church in Bloomington with Rev. Marvin Marzke officiating. Cremation rites have been accorded. Kibler-Brady-Ruestman Memorial Home is assisting the family with arrangements.

Inurnment will be at a later date at Calumet Park Cemetery in Merrillville, Indiana. Memorials may be made to the Normal Senior Center.

Bonnie was born on July 1, 1941 in Gary, IN, a daughter to Harvey L. And Helen L. Jarabek Simonson. She married Larry Cox on August 31, 1987 in Merrillville, IN. He survives.

In addition to her husband Larry, Bonnie is survived by two sons, Earl (Jennifer) Roark, Chris (Jodi) Roark, both of Crown Point, IN; five step children; eight grandchildren; and two great grandchildren. She is also survived by her sister Marsha (Ross) Hansard of Colorado.

Bonnie was preceded in death by her parents.

She was born and raised in North West Indiana where she worked at several food service and grocery stores before moving to Bloomington, Illinois in 1988. She worked for and retired from Alexanders Lumber Yard in Bloomington designing kitchens.

After retirement Bonnie started working at the Senior Center in Normal, Illinois where she worked for the remainder of her life. She looked forward to working with the seniors and was loved by those who worked there and by those who went to the center. Plans are under way to name the café in the new Normal Senior Center Building "Bonnie’s Café" in her memory.

Bonnie also volunteered monthly at the Community Health Clinic. Bonnie loved to cook and was always trying new recipes. Every Christmas was filled with dozens of different cookies that she baked, and in the Spring and Summer her garden was her pride and joy bursting with beautiful roses and a variety of vegetables. Her table was always filled with delicious meals and her garden bloomed with beautiful flowers and vegetables that she loved to share.

Bonnie was loved and will be missed by her family and friends.
