SPRINGFIELD – The Department of Children and Family Services isn’t moving fast enough for the American Civil Liberties Union.
ACLU of Illinois has asked a federal judge to order DCFS to jump-start reforms at the agency. A press release from the group says a court must oversee DCFS and address severe shortages of safe placements and necessary services.
The ACLU said they have tried working with a revolving door of DCFS officials to provide mental health services for children and to increase oversight on DCFS investigators.
Gov. Bruce Rauner recently tapped George Sheldon to be the director of DCFS. If the senate approves, Sheldon would be the seventh director in three years.
