SPRINGFIELD – The FBI has approved the use of their criminal history database to check the backgrounds of medical cannabis organizations in Illinois. That’s the latest from the state’s Medical Cannabis Pilot Program.

It was reported last week that Gov. Bruce Rauner issued licenses without the background checks that were approved by law. Rauner’s office said the law was meant for applicants moving forward.

Bob Morgan, Statewide Project Coordinator for the program, says this step will maintain the integrity of the program. The permits for dozens of the cultivation centers and dispensaries were initially delayed by inaction of previous Gov. Pat Quinn.

I was a grade-schooler during the Civil Rights 1960s. I watched Birmingham demonstrators hosed and the Selma – Montgomery…

Workers’ Memorial Day – Remember those whose job took their life

Looking around our community, when we say employer, most will respond to State Farm, Country, or Illinois State University.   We too often forget those who are building our roads, serving our food, or our public employees. COVID-19 has made us more aware of the risk.  Going to work every day for some people means…
