SPRINGFIELD – There’s been one winner in the very much locked-down Illinois Medical Cannabis Pilot Program – a software company that Illinois gave $1.5 million for systems to maintain records of patients and caregivers taking part in the program.
The Chicago Sun-Times reports Iron Data Solutions Inc. got the contract with the Illinois Department of Public Health. The state-run pilot program has already collected five-million dollars in fees from investors wanting to grow and sell the plant and some from patients applying to legally consume the drug.
More than 600 patients have gotten their permits but cultivation centers and dispensaries are still awaiting their permission to begin operations to supply the drug.
The four-year pilot program began in early 2014. Gov. Pat Quinn neglected to issue the permits before the end of last year.
