BLOOMINGTON – Super Bowl Sunday is known as much for the commercials as it is for the game.
A local domestic violence awareness group hopes a 30-second ad the NFL is hoping will catch your attention.
The 30-second ad which will run during the first quarter of the game recreates an actual 911 call where a victim has to conceal her plea for help, by faking a pizza order.
Kim Wells, director of the Corporate Alliance to End Partner Violence told WJBC's Scott Laughlin, the NFL's lead in raising domestic violence awareness can become a model for workplaces across the country.
"It gives momentum so other workplaces can say maybe they should take a look at this too," Wells said. "That's something where maybe we wouldn't have gotten this momentum without them."
The NFL partnered with the alliance after several high profile abuse cases involving NFL players. With a $4.5 million dollar price tag for a 30-second ad, Wells said the league is putting its money where its mouth is.
Wells wants everyone to get the message that domestic violence can't be tolerated and it's not just a football issue.
"We would love every workplace large and small to realize this isn't just an issue for those places," Wells said.
Wells urged supporters to sign a pledge to stop domestic violence at www.nomore.org.
