NORMAL – A friendly wager between U.S. Rep. Rodney Davis (R-Taylorville) and North Dakota U.S. Rep. Kevin Cramer (R-Bismarck, N.D.) has been paid up.
Because the Bison defeated the Illinois State University football team in the FCS National Championship, Davis had to deliver two dozen cupcakes from Normal's Sugar Mama Bakery to Cramer's officer wearing a North Dakota State University sweater.
"It wasn't nearly as fun when I made the bet as I thought it would be because I truly thought ISU was gonna whoop 'em," Davis said.
Davis said Cramer did end up sharing some bison jerky with him, which was to be his payment if the Redbirds won.
"I was excellent," said Davis. "I ate it for breakfast."
Davis explained why he chose Sugar Mama Bakery for his portion of the bet.
"The salted caramel cupcakes from Sugar Mama are my kid's and my wife's favorite. So whenever I'm in my office or up in the normal area, I'm required to bring home a dozen mini-salted caramel cupcakes," said Davis. "When we placed the bet, I wanted something that would be homey and something that would show our pride in Normal and the campus and I thought immediately of Sugar Mama Bakery."
Davis added he thought ISU played well enough to win and if the teams should meet again next year "North Dakota State ought to be very, very scared."
