BLOOMINGTON – Nicholas Compton has been found guilty of murder in the death of 3-year-old Robbie Cramer.
Compton was also convicted on four counts of aggravated battery.
A McLean County Jury returned the verdict late Friday afternoon after a two week trial and a day-and-a-half of deliberations.
The Compton, 24, was accused of beating Cramer and causing an abdominal injury that led to the boy's death.
The child's mother, Danielle Fischer, faces murder charges in a separate case for her alleged failure to take the toddler to the doctor. She was Compton's girlfriend at the time of Cramer's death.
During the trial defense attorney Ron Lewis says there is no evidence directly tying the multiple bruises, abrasions and burns on Cramer's body to child abuse.
Compton was found not guilty of aggravated domestic battery and one count of aggravated battery.
