BLOOMINGTON – The disciplinary report on Sergeant Ed Shumaker will be released by the end of business today. That is according to Bloomington Mayor Tari Renner.
The officer reportedly told another officer he hopes a black stabbing victim quote "bleeds to death."
"Everything that we can make public will be made public today," said Renner. "We want to make it clear we are not trying to sweep anything under the rug. I ran on openness and transparency and I meant it. We are making a lot of progress in that regard. And this is one of those times that certainly tests the resolve of the city to be open and transparent about things."
Bloomington Police Chief Brendan Heffner said the department has disciplined the officer, but did not release the specific discipline. Heffner has said the department is disturbed and deeply saddened by the officers remarks.
