BLOOMINGTON – After the prosecution rested their case in the trial of Nicholas Compton, the defense is expected to call an expert witness in to testify tomorrow. It will likely rest their case this week.

The defense filed for a motion yesterday asking for a directed verdict. This could lead the trial to end if the judge ruled the state's evidence didn't support the charges.

Judge Charles Feeney denied that motion.

Compton has been charged with first-degree murder, domestic battery and aggravated battery of a child. He is accused of causing injuries that led to the death of three-year-old Robbie Cramer in March 2013.

Illinois poet Vachel Lindsay…

I was a grade-schooler during the Civil Rights 1960s. I watched Birmingham demonstrators hosed and the Selma – Montgomery…

Workers’ Memorial Day – Remember those whose job took their life

Looking around our community, when we say employer, most will respond to State Farm, Country, or Illinois State University.   We too often forget those who are building our roads, serving our food, or our public employees. COVID-19 has made us more aware of the risk.  Going to work every day for some people means…
