Inaction on pot creates cloud for patients

CHICAGO – The lead sponsor of the state's medical marijuana said it's a failure on the part of outgoing Gov. Pat Quinn to leave office without approving licenses for companies that want to grow and sell pot. 

State Rep. Lou Lang (D-Skokie) said it's also a failure for the patients who have been waiting for the relief from pain and other symptoms that medical marijuana would provide.

Quinn gave no explanation for the decision not to act, and the matter now becomes an issue for Gov. Bruce Rauner, who has expressed reservations about the way the licenses for dispensaries and cultivation centers were to be awarded. His spokesman has only promised to review the law.
