SPRINGFIELD – After serving 13 years behind bars for the murder of an Illinois State University student, Alan Beaman was pardoned by Gov. Pat Quinn late Friday.
Beaman was declared innocent two years ago, after originally being convicted for the murder of Jennifer Lockmiller in 1993. Since his sentence, the 42 year old has filed lawsuits against police and prosecutors seeking monetary damages.
Beaman was released from prison in 2008, and has been working as a design engineer for a tool company in Rockford. The action marks the first pardon based on innocence by Quinn.
