Mabel Otto

Mabel Cecilia Otto, 99, of Northbrook and formerly of Bloomington, died at 2:25 a.m. Dec. 27, 2014 at Rosewood Care Center of Northbrook.

Her funeral will be at 10 a.m. Friday at Holy Trinity Catholic Church, Bloomington, with Rev. R. Anthony Lee officiating. Burial will be in Holy Cross Cemetery, Normal. Visitation will be from 9-10 a.m. Friday at the church. Carmody-Flynn Funeral Home, Bloomington, is in charge of arrangements.

Memorial contributions may be made to the St. Vincent de Paul Society.

She was born Aug. 7, 1915 in Bloomington, a daughter of Charles and Geneva Tosh Hendryx.  She married William Otto on Oct. 12, 1936.  He preceded her in death on Aug. 12, 1997.

Surviving are a daughter, Janet Dutler of Mundelein, Ill.; two grandsons, Michael (Alice) Dutler of Vernon Hills, Ill. and Stephen (Audra) Dutler of Kenosha, Wis.; and five great grandchildren: Christian, Abigail, and Matthew Dutler of Vernon Hills, Ill. and Rachel and Ian Dutler of Kenosha WI.

She was preceded in death by her husband, her brother Donald Hendryx, Son in law, David Dutler and her parents.

Mabel was a homemaker but also a former member of the Holy Trinity school board, former secretary to the McClean County Democratic chairman and a former state license examiner. Mrs. Otto also volunteered for the St. Vincent DePaul food pantry for many years.

Mabel was an avid seamstress and knitter; she was very crafty and enjoyed creating beautiful art. She was an amazing cook.  Mabel was a member of the Department 56 Collectors Group Prairie villagers and had a great talent for displaying her extensive Dickens village collection.
