BLOOMINGTON – One of the groups helping the people of Mississippi recover from the recent tornadoes is Midwest Food Bank.

One of their locations is in Bloomington. Midwest Food Bank director Mike Hoffman says there are people in Mississippi still in need.

"There was a pretty devastating tornado down in Mississippi," said Hoffman. "We've alreday been in contact with the Salvation Army and are on alert if they need supplies we'll be delivering to that disaster site for them."

Hoffman says the Midwest Food Bank works with other groups such as the Salvation Army and creates food boxes that can feed families for several days.  This will come in handy for those who kept their lives, but lost everything in their homes.

Illinois poet Vachel Lindsay…

African-Americans have been killed too many times in the past before George Floyd, but the response to this man’s death is international and all-encompassing. I was a grade-schooler during the Civil Rights 1960s. I watched Birmingham demonstrators hosed and the Selma – Montgomery…

Workers’ Memorial Day – Remember those whose job took their life

Looking around our community, when we say employer, most will respond to State Farm, Country, or Illinois State University.   We too often forget those who are building our roads, serving our food, or our public employees. COVID-19 has made us more aware of the risk.  Going to work every day for some people means…
