ELGIN – A business group has sued the northern Illinois community of Elgin over a zoning permit granted to a proposed medical marijuana dispensary.
The (Arlington Heights) Daily Herald reports the Fox Bluff Corporate Center property owners association filed the lawsuit earlier this month in Kane County. The group says the dispensary would increase crime
and traffic.
The lawsuit names the city and Salveo Health & Wellness of Chicago, a group that applied for a marijuana dispensary permit. The suit also names a building owner.
Elgin Mayor David Kaptain opposed granting the zoning permit. The mayor says didn't have time to read the transcript of a zoning commission meeting before voting, and he says he's not surprised by the lawsuit.
The dispensary applicant didn't respond to the newspaper's request for comment.
