BLOOMINGTON – The Bloomington Flex opener in the inaugural season of the Midwest Professional Basketball Association is set for Jan. 4, as they travel to suburban St. Louis to take on the St. Louis RiverSharks at Family Arena at 1:00 p.m., the team announced Monday.

The home opener at U.S. Cellular Coliseum follows one week later on January 11 at 2:05 p.m. against the Gateway Steam. The Flex, coming off back-to-back championships in 2012 and 2013 and an overall 19-0 record in 2014, will play each of the five other MPBA teams four times, twice on each other’s home floor.

“We’ve actually had the schedule for some time,” said Operations Director Craig Fata. “It’s been up on the league website, but there were still some tipoff times on the road that were being finalized, and we just had one change come through from the Coliseum last week, so we haven’t been able to publicize it until now,” Fata said.

The Flex wind up the regular season on April 2 in Chicago against the Windy City Groove.

Labor Day – Expanding voting rights for all

If there had been a parade, this year’s Labor Day theme was to be “150 years of struggle: your right to vote.” …

Is federal mobilization the answer?

Pritzker, recall another Illinois Governor who protested the incursion of armed federal personnel into the city.   Those federal troops, rather than calming, escalated the situation, leading to deaths and violence. Illinois poet Vachel Lindsay…

In these troubled times, to my fellow white Americans

By Mike Matejka Our nation is at a unique watershed in human relations. African-Americans have been killed too many times in the past before George Floyd, but the response to this man’s death is international and all-encompassing. I was a grade-schooler during the Civil Rights 1960s. I watched Birmingham demonstrators hosed and the Selma – Montgomery…

Workers’ Memorial Day – Remember those whose job took their life

Looking around our community, when we say employer, most will respond to State Farm, Country, or Illinois State University.   We too often forget those who are building our roads, serving our food, or our public employees. COVID-19 has made us more aware of the risk.  Going to work every day for some people means…
