BLOOMINGTON – It might have been a generous donation, but it might have been an accident.
The Salvation Army of McLean County discovered a diamond ring in one of its kettles in Bloomington this week. The Salvation Army says rings are often dropped in kettles as donations, but there was no note to signify that it was meant to be a donation, so the charity wants to make sure the ring didn't simply slip off someone's hand.
The Salvation Army asks if anyone dropped the ring, they can call (309) 829-9476 to claim it, but they will need to know details to confirm ownership.
The red kettle campaign has raised $170, 400 and its mail appeal has raised another $170,100. The red kettle campaign goal is $230,000 and will run through Christmas Eve while the mail-in campaign seeks $240,000 and will continue until New Year's Eve.
