NORMAL – The Normal Town Council on Monday will consider approving the fiscal year 2015-2020 Community Investment Plan.
City manager Mark Peterson said the plan essentially lays out what capital projects the city is looking to accomplish in that time. It includes about $60 million worth of projects.
"Projects are added, others are completed, but we typically stay in the $60 to $70 million dollar range," said Peterson. "Most of the projects are funded in the five year period. There are some projects that are identified as needs that aren't funded."
Peterson said a project which has been identified as high priority is a new fire station.
"We've made the determination that our current fire station number two has reached the end of its useful life, so we want to replace that station," said Peterson. "We're not prepared to identify the site yet, but we are working on a site."
According to Peterson, an example of a plan which the town believes is needed, but not crucial at this time, is an indoor community recreation center.
Bloomington sewers
Bloomington's city council plans a vote Monday night on a sewer rehabilitation contract.
The contract being considered is with Hoerr Construction for $1.6 million. City manager Davis Hales said if the agreement is approved the company would be doing sewer lining in various areas of the city.
"They've got equipment to go inside the pipe and actually put a new lining to help strengthen the pipe and also seal any cracks where water could be infiltrating out of the pipe into the surrounding soil," Hales said.
Hales explained Bloomington hasn't done much sewer lining in recent years, but it is a common practice. The majority of funding would come from sanitary sewer fees.
