United Way helps YWCA provide services

The YWCA of McLean County receives help in providing services from your donations to United Way. (YWCA Facebook)

Bloomington – United Way of McLean County is helping raise funds that support many charitable organizations' operations.

One organization that receives funding from United Way is the YWCA. Marketing and Public Relations Director for the YWCA, Christy Germanis says United Way's funding helps get people to and from their medical appointments.

"We have home care services and medivan, we both get funding for both of those services from United Way," says Germanis. "The medivan program is the only to door to door service to get people to their medical appointments."

Germanis says that YWCA childcare services would not be provided without the funds they receive from United Way.

"The childcare services, some of the funding for that goes to help emergency or crisis situations where we help them keep that consistent professional training," says Germanis. "There kids can come in and have that consistent place to go."

Donating to United Way and YWCA is easy, just go to uwaymc.org. Every dollar makes the community a better place said Germanis.

Pritzker, recall another Illinois Governor who protested the incursion of armed federal personnel into the city.   Those federal troops, rather than calming, escalated the situation, leading to deaths and violence. Illinois poet Vachel Lindsay…

In these troubled times, to my fellow white Americans

By Mike Matejka Our nation is at a unique watershed in human relations. African-Americans have been killed too many times in the past before George Floyd, but the response to this man’s death is international and all-encompassing. I was a grade-schooler during the Civil Rights 1960s. I watched Birmingham demonstrators hosed and the Selma – Montgomery…

Workers’ Memorial Day – Remember those whose job took their life

Looking around our community, when we say employer, most will respond to State Farm, Country, or Illinois State University.   We too often forget those who are building our roads, serving our food, or our public employees. COVID-19 has made us more aware of the risk.  Going to work every day for some people means…
