On my way to work this past week, I drove through Country Club Place. What a surprise, there was road work being done!
The question, to me, becomes, why is the city doing Country Club Place before it does other streets that are in far worse condition and are more heavily traveled? This should be a question for each of us as members of the community. Has anyone from the Bloomington Street Department driven down Clinton Blvd. By the post office and Country Companies? If so, you would see that the road is so broken up that is near to impossible to avoid ruts, holes and broken concrete. Then there is the west side, where the streets might not get any attention until late summer. Why is that? Could it that the west side residents don’t generally live in $500,000 plus houses such as we find on Country Club Place.
As members of the community, we need to let our leaders know that priority in street repair should rely on how heavily traveled the street is, and not what side of town one lives on. Bloomington, in my opinion, has always had this problem of doing for the well-off and letting everyone else fend for themselves. This needs to change.
The only way change will happen and all members of the community to be treated equally, is for members of the community to get involved. Let the street department know that your street needs attention as much as country club place. Remind the city government that you live here too and should get the same attention as high rent districts do. It’s your community; make it better by getting involved.
