DEKALB, IL - Northern Illinois University gunman Steven Kazmierczak joined the Army in September 2001 but was discharged six months later. Army spokesman Paul Boyce says Kazmierczak was discharged for an ``unspecified'' reason.
Details continue to emerge about the man who killed five people in an NIU lecture hall Thursday before killing himself. An Indiana prisons spokesman says Kazmierczak worked briefly as a full-time correction officer at an adult medium security prison in Rockville, Indiana.
Spokesman Doug Garrison says Kazmierczak was only on the job from September 24th to October 9th, 2007 before, in his words, ``he just didn't show up one day.'' Garrison says he doesn't know if Kazmierczak had tried to get his job back.
