Unit 5 facing lawsuit because of Jon White

A Champaign attorney has filed a federal lawsuit on behalf of an Urbana second-grader who was sexually abused by former Unit 5 teacher John White. The child and her mother are seeking $1 million each from Unit 5 and Urbana school districts. White is serving 60 years in prison for sexually abusing students in Urbana and at Colene Hoose Elementary in Normal. White left Unit 5 after a mother complained he was following her daughter. When he left Unit 5, the district gave him a letter of recommendation. White was later arrested for sexually abusing students while teaching at an Urbana grade school.
