Storms bear down on the state
05/30/2008 15:49:34

McLean County was under a tornado warning for a half hour this afternoon because a trained spotter confirmed a funnel cloud aloft and other sightings between Route 9 and Route 165 in the area of Cooksville and Bentown. Heavy rain also fell. Goodfield received two inches within 30 minutes.
The National Weather Service has also issued an urban and small stream flood advisory for Southern Livingston and Central Ford Counties until 7:30 tonight. A tornado watch remains in effect until 10 o-clock tonight for most of the WJBC listening area.
Severe weather across northern Illinois has left thousands without power, knocked a semitrailer from a highway and lifted the roof from a building at Rockford's airport.
ComEd says 49,000 customers are without power in northern Illinois, down from a high of 69,000. National Weather Service meteorologist Stephen Rodriguez says winds in the region have been enhanced by a string of thunderstorms. He says gusts up to 60 miles per hour have been
reported near the Wisconsin border.
Rodriguez says a semitrailer was blown from the roadway near Marengo, and a building at the Rockford airport lost its roof.
