Governor has another idea for Pontiac's prison

Governor Blagojevich says they're looking into making Pontiac prison a drug treatment facility.

There might be another use for Pontiac's prison. Today, Governor Blagojevich mentioned the facility during an appearance in Chicago. He wants to expand the drug treatment program that has been in place for four years at the Sheridan Correctional Center in LaSalle County.

Governor Blagojevich suggested another prison facility like Pontiac as a place they might be interested in re-tooling along the lines of Sheridan. The Department of Corrections has proposed closing Pontiac outright and transferring inmates to a new, unused facility in Thomson. Local officials in Pontiac have come out against that. Prison closings require approval from the General Assembly.
