SPORTS - Cards Slide Past Tampa Bay
05/17/2008 17:10:32
ST. LOUIS (AP) Ryan Ludwick's one-out solo home run off the first pitch he saw from Dan Wheeler in the bottom of the 10th inning lifted St. Louis past Tampa Bay 9-8. Ludwick's second blast of the day capped the Cardinals' recovery after squandering a four-run lead. Albert Pujols also homered and had two RBIs a day after his 42-game streak of reaching base ended. He helped the Redbirds win for only the third time in 11 games. The American League East-leading Rays lost for just the second time in 10 games. The Rays erased a pair of four-run deficits behind a season-high 18 hits. But all that offense was somewhat negated by five runners getting thrown out on the bases. Ryan Franklin allowed two walks in two scoreless innings and improves to 2-1 with the win. Wheeler falls to 0-3 with the loss. John Rooney has this report.
