SPORTS- Area girls take four state track titles

Area athletes took four individual championships and swept the top three places in two events in Saturday's finals of the Illinois High School Association Girls' State Track and Field Meet in Charleston.
Ashley Verplank of Bloomington completed her high school career by taking the Class AA titles in the 800 and 1600 meter runs. Stephanie Brown of Tri-Valley won the Class A 800 meter run in a record time of 2:10.96. Kelly Curran of Central Catholic took the Class A championship in the 3200 meter run, followed by Olivia Klaus of Eureka and Kerry Pelton of Central Catholic in the next two places. Klaus won the Class A 1600 meter run, followed by Brown and Curran.
Benton took the Class A team title with 71 points, followed by Eureka in second with 45 and Central Catholic in third with 37. Bloomington tied for tenth place in the Class AA team standings.
