A former McLean County woman, who lost a sexual assault case she pressed against two men who who secretely videotaped her, says she's vindicated today by a victory in civil court.
Judge Jim Souk earlier ruled in favor of Red Shelby and against Jeff Young and Thomas Hawkins when they didn't challenge her lawsuit. It claimed she was drugged, raped, and videotaped against her will three years ago by her former boyfriend, Young and his friend Hawkins. Souk today awarded Shelby $125,000 in damages from each man for medical, moving, travel, and court costs. It also covers pain and suffering. The judge rejected claims from Young's lawyer that Shelby was not damaged because her name was never included in media reports of the criminal trial. Judge Souk said the attack was traumatic and distressing, as he put it, " whether the rest of the world knows or not."
