BLOOMINGTON - More than half the jurors needed to try a former Bloomington police officer on rape charges have been picked, but a judge says opening statements in the trial may not start until Monday or Tuesday. Judge Robert Frietag says he has a number of motions filed by attorneys in the Jeff Pelo case to consider before attorneys can argue the case. Pelo has pleaded not guilty to 35 charges in four rapes. Prosecutors say Pelo stalked and raped the four women while he was a Bloomington police sergeant. His defense attorney has questioned how the women could ID their
masked attacker. Eight jurors have been selected. Twelve jurors and three alternates will be chosen.
