Mitchell: Lawmakers won't approve money for anti-violence program

State Representative Bill Mitchell says the Governor's anti-violence program won't work.

State representative Bill Mitchell says he doesn't think the Governor's proposal to include $150 million for anti-violence programs in a capital spending plan will fly. Mitchell tells WJBC's Laughlin and Reynolds, he agrees with the Chicago Tribune, which said the Governor vetoed an effective anti-violence program called "Cease Fire".

Governor Blagojevich eliminated $6.25 million for the program that operated in 25 communities, calling it "pork" and non-essential spending. The Chicago Project for Violence estimated the program prevented between 300 and 1,000 people from being shot and mediated some 1,200 high-risk neighborhood conflicts,many involving guns.
