Thrifty shoppers find bargains at second-hand stores

Home Sweet Home Mission Mart assistant manager Carol Wilson says sales have jumped dramatically as the economy slumps.
   

Cash-strapped consumers are doing more shopping at thrift stores. The Home Sweet Home Mission Mart in Bloomington has experienced dramatic jumps in clothing sales since the economy turned sour, according to assistant manager Carol Wilson.

Sales at the BroMenn Thrift store in Bloomington have been steady, and manager Cathy Davis expects business to take a turn for the better.

But Davis says only half of the stores' customers shop there out of necessity. She says because of the quality of the store's second-hand merchandise, customers have given it a nickname.
