An old red house, attached to the former Livingston County Jail, is now just a memory. The structure was destroyed by fire late Saturday night and the state fire marshal is trying to figure out the cause. Firefighters from numerous departments battled the blaze for several hours and bulldozers from a local construction company were brought in to demolish the building.

The Pontiac building most recently housed offices for Livingston County Sheriff’s investigators, before they moved to the new jail facility in Pontiac. The former jail building, which was attached, only received minor damage to an adjoining hallway.
