Jury selection begins today in the sex assault and stalking trial of former Bloomington Police Sergeant Jeff Pelo who has been in jail for two years.
Specifically, Pelo is accused of raping four women and stalking another over a three-year period.

The prosecution listed as many as 500 potential witnesses, but recently Assistant State's Attorney Mark Messman told the judge he'll likely call between 50 and 150. On that list, is Michele -- one of several young women who matches the profile of the victims. Police interviewed her because Pelo ran her license plates twice -- in the early hours of the morning. Michele says she feels for the victims.

Police have gone over Pelo's activities and records meticulously, believing he used resources available to him as a police officer to track young women who eventually became his victims. The 17-year police veteran's family has stood by him and drained family resources to provide a private attorney.
