A military wife and her four kids have been displaced by a fire at their home at 902 Timothy Court in Normal.

Captain John Grussing says Miel Locke realized something was wrong just after 10 a.m. Saturday when her television went dark. She smelled smoke, went outside and saw flames coming from the eaves of her porch. Locke was able to get everyone out safely.

There's an estimated $7,000 in damage and authorities believe the cause is electrical but they can't confirm that. The Red Cross of the Heartland is helping the family find housing until the electrical system can be checked.
