Bloomington avoids strike - signs union contracts

City of Bloomington support staff and parking attendants won't strike on Monday. Union leaders and city officials agreed today to retroactive contracts dating back to May of 2007 and expiring next May. Business Manager David Penn with the Laborer's Local 362 says health insurance costs were the main sticking point. But he says the two groups came up with a plan to help with insurance costs in the future.

Union members had been working under a unilateral agreement imposed by the city for about a year.
