It's that time of year -- local health officials have started surveillance and testing for West Nile Virus. McLean County Health Department spokeswoman Bree Davis says the department will soon set up mosquito traps to see if the virus is present. Dead birds that don't shown signs of trauma will also be sent to the state for testing. Davis says last summer was a mild one for West Nile, only one human case in McLean County, but she says this year is anybody's guess.

Davis also says the public needs to prevent the onset of the virus by removing anything that can hold standing water, limiting time outdoors between dusk and dawn, and wearing insect repellent that contains DEET.
