State remembers Holocaust victims

Illinois had its annual ceremony to reflect upon the mass genocide during World War Two. Lawmakers and the Jewish community honored the memories of the lives lost and the lives spared during the Holocaust. Survivor Aaron Elster shared his story about living in fear for his life.
He says rain became his only friend while he hid in an attic for nearly two years.

Elster was the only one in his family to survive. He now lives in Chicago. Lawmakers say the Holocaust is lesson of how hatred can be a serious threat to humanity.
Community leaders challenged the those in attendance to stand up against hate to prevent another Holocaust from happening. They also encouraged people to take a stand against modern Holocausts -- like what's going on in Darfur.
