Governor serious about closing Pontiac

The Illinois Department of Corrections has filed a petition to close Pontiac prison with the Commission on Government Forecasting and Accountability.

The governor appears to be serious about his decision to close the Pontiac Correctional Center. The Illinois Department of Corrections has filed a petition to close the prison with the Commission on Government Forecasting and Accountability.

DOC spokesman Derek Schnapp says the Pontiac prison is a concern.

The governor proposes moving the inmates to other prisons - like Thomson Correctional Center, but former corrections employee and current Livingston
County Board member Bruce Koerner says Pontiac is the only place appropriate for certain inmates.
