SPRINGFIELD, Ill. (AP) -- Illinois has announced its largest "Click It or Ticket'' program in state history. The governor's office, Illinois Department of Transportation, Illinois State Police and local police agencies across the state announced the effort on Tuesday. It will stretch through May.
The state is pushing for 100 percent compliance with Illinois seat belt laws. Illinois motorists now are at 90 percent.
Officials say 500 law enforcement officers will dedicate more than 15,000 hours to seat belt details between May 1st and June 1st. The state also will spend $800,000 on paid advertising promoting seat belt usage.
