HCC to continue minor league negotiations

Heartland Community College's Board of Trustees will make a final decision on possibly bringing a minor league team to Normal on May 20th.

Heartland Community College has decided to continue negotiations to possibly bring a minor league baseball team to Normal. Vice President of Business Services Robert Widmer says bids for the college's own athletic fields came in 51-percent over the projected cost.

Baseball ad-hoc committee chairman Alan Sender says his group has explored all options in bringing a team to the Twin Cities, including discussions with ISU, which just broke ground for its own new stadium.

Sender says the three viable ownership groups would be part of either the Northern League or Frontier League. Heartland officials will make a final decision on May 20th.
